Skyline Cycle's Blog
I was just in the shop looking at the repair board and we have entirely caught up with the work load. We are turning around regular repairs that don't need parts in no longer than three days right now. This may change as we approach the holiday weekend, but as of right now we could get your bike back to you by Saturday.
Just a heads up about the group road ride this Wednesday the 22nd. I will be unable to lead the no drop section of the ride because I will be training with Weber Pathways learning to lead work crews. What I will do to make sure things go smoothly is print little maps of the route so no one gets lost. As you guys are out there Wednesday make sure to help each other and keep an eye when you get back. If someone is missing for a long time go back an look for them, just make sure to be safe and have fun. I will be on the ride next week. Remember we meet in the parking lot at 6:00p.m. and leave no later than 6:30.
We will be closed May 27th for Memorial Day, we will be here Saturday the 25th all day though so if you need anything last minute drop in and we will get you taken care of. Have a great weekend, be safe and we will be back for normal business hours Tuesday the 28th
It looks great outside and we are looking forward to a wonderful group road ride this evening. Plan on meeting up at 6:00p.m. in our parking lot and we will leave no later that 6:30p.m..
On another note the repair timeline on the website has not been changed because we have been maintaining about a five day wait time on repairs. If it shortens or gets longer I will change the website, so if you need repairs know that timeline is accurate. See everyone soon, thanks.
I went for one of the best rides I've had this year this morning over on the northern shoreline. It had just rained, the dirt was perfect, and man the smells of spring were everywhere. I did notice something though, it appears that someone, or group of people are removing a lot of rocks on the section of trail from 9th street over to where the canal road ends. I think these people have the best of intentions and don't understand that they are removing rocks that for the most part were left on purpose. Some were left to make riders slow down, some were fun to ride over and in the worst cases the rocks removed actually cause bigger problems than them being left. If any of you run into these folks let them know that their intent to work on the trail is good, its just being done wrong. Have them get a hold of Matt at Skyline because that is our section of trail to maintain and we have lots of projects that they could help us with. I just want to make sure the trails are left fun, safe, yet in some cases challenging.
Guys I am so sorry but the weather is crappy again. We waited until the last minute but its not clearing up and the last thing we want is all of you , and us out in the middle of a storm in the middle of no where. We will give it another try next week and hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate with us. It sure does suck being a weather man. Thanks all.
The skies are blue, and the weather is great. Unless the weather changes drastically it looks like we are headed out for this years first group road ride. Remember we meet up at 6:00p.m. in the and will leave by 6:30p.m. at the very latest. I will post any cancellations by 4:30p.m. if they arise.
Also this Saturday May 11th we will be closing all of our in stock cold weather gear out at 50% off. This will be a great way to prepare for the last few chilly rides or a way to get ready for next fall. As always thanks and see you soon.
It is supper cold, windy and crappy out, so to heck with the ride. We are CANCELLING this week but plan on next week. If you had friends or new people coming give them a call and let them know in case they don't see the posts. Sorry, we'll see you guys soon.
This Wednesday the 1st will be the start of the group road riding season. We will meet at 6:00p.m. and plan on leaving no later than 6:30p.m. We will be riding 22miles and there will be a fast drop section as well as a no-drop section of the ride. The no drop section will follow the same route as the drop section and will move about 18-20mph. The no drop section will always be supported by a member of the store and you will not be left out in the middle no where. We look forward to riding with you this year, and thanks.
We now have six rental mountain bikes in and ready to go. We have Kona 29er Splices ranging from 16in-19in. We charge $35 a day.
Repairs have slowed just a little because of the cool weather so we are only about 3 business days out on service so its a good time to bring down bikes if you need work done. Sounds like warm weather is on the way, we can't wait.
Welcome to the 2013 riding season. Thanks again for a wonderful turn out to or annual spring sale. We set up just a ton of folks with new bikes and gear, looks like everyone is planning on a big riding season.
Group rides will start Wednesday May 1st. We will meet at 6:00p.m. and leave at 6:30p.m. Plan on us riding every Wednesday through out the season unless there is a holiday or bad weather. I will post any cancellations on the web site and on the Face Book account by 4:30p.m. the day of the ride.
Trails are starting to open up and be ride able as I type this. Most of the Bonneville shoreline is ride able. There may be a few muddy spots where it would be better to walk your bike rather than ride it. If the trail looks muddy do everyone including yourself a favor and stay off it until its dry, damage done to trail systems this time of the year take forever to undo through the rest of the season and it give us a bad rap with trail managers.
I will post up trail digs as soon as I get them scheduled. Thanks for picking us as your bike store, we're excited for a great season.
Sorry its been a moment with post and updates, we have been supper busy, so thanks for making us run around. We had a great season teaching spin class and bicycle maintenance class with all of those that took the opportunity to come and get in better shape for the spring, or those that chose to expand their knowledge of bicycle mechanics. Unfortunately both the spin class and the free bicycle maintenance classes have come to an end do just to the fact that we have run out of time as we enter into the busy season, thanks to all of you who visited us during the winter, and we look forward to a great season. Matt

Just a reminder that the special we have on our basic tune ups will end at the end of February on the 28th. At this point we are still no farther out then 2-3 business days on taking a bike in and then sending it back out, but we are starting to see a considerable increase in the amount of work we are doing. As a generality we will be around 5 business days with your bicycle here during the peek of the season. Keep this in mind as we enter into the season and you have events/rides that you need to have maintenance done on your bicycle before. Looking forward to a great year, come on spring.

In the bike maintenance class we will be going over wheels. We will discuss the way in which a wheel works, spokes, hubs the whole nine yards and then we will go over the technique of truing wheels. I will have a couple wheel truing stands set up with wheels so that you will have the opportunity to actually true a wheel if you would like. As always if you have questions call 801-394-7700 or send and e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
